A Surprising Moment and the Australian Clinical Supervision Conference
As you all know, I am very passionate about quality supervision for what it offers our clients, ourselves, our colleagues, our workplace, and our field more broadly.
Last year, I joined the membership committee of the Australian Clinical Supervision Association (ACSA) to contribute to such an important organisation that values supervision across disciplines, workplaces and sectors. There is so much opportunity to learn from each other.
ACSA’s vision is:
We envision an Australia where everyone can access clinical supervision, regardless of their discipline or location. With their wellbeing supported and practices refined, professionals will better support their clients and service users and shape the best possible outcomes for everyone.
At ACSA, we're building this future by connecting people in helping professions to quality learning and meaningful professional relationships. Every one of our members is helping pave the way to a world of great clinical practice.
You can learn more about ACSA here.
It is very exciting that ACSA is holding a conference with the theme of ‘Celebrating the Momentum’ in Cairns on Thursday, 12 and Friday 13 June, 2025 at the Shangri La The Marina, Cairns, Queensland.
ACSA is thrilled to offer a welcoming and collaborative educational experience for anyone interested in the benefits and impacts of Clinical Supervision in your work environment.
ACSA 2025 ‘Celebrating the Momentum’ will focus on the impacts created by Clinical Supervision across a broad range of industries, including allied health professionals working in health, education, corrections, leadership and research areas, nurses and first responders, education professionals, people supporting staff in aged care and the NDIS and policy leaders responsible for developing supervision frameworks.
It will be an opportunity to showcase the passion and energy currently in Clinical Supervision in Australia.

A Surprising Moment
The development of supervisory skills is an ongoing journey for supervisees, for supervisors and for workplaces, which is why we offer a range of supervision programs and resources to meet this need. One of the highlights of my work is working with workplaces to implement and align a supervision framework with best practice supervision.
Last week, I kicked off my training year working with a private paediatric practice, delivering a two-day supervision program. They are an incredible team with a very high level of psychological safety who are highly committed to supporting their OT & SP workforce with a comprehensive supervision program. As well as providing individual supervision weekly, fortnightly and monthly for their team, this practice is committed to complementing this with group supervision to encourage enhanced peer learning.
Having worked with their team previously, it was heartening to see how their investment in supervision is paying off. The key takeaways were the growing level of quiet confidence, the high level of engagement in quality supervision and very low staff retention compared to similar practices.
However, the most surprising element over the two days was the lack of conversation about burnout and the high level of enthusiasm and energy amongst the team. It is so good to see that quality, transformative supervision can change the experience of our workforce.
